American students engaging in peaceful demonstrations—just as students did against the Vietnam War, segregation, and apartheid in South Africa—are being threatened with imprisonment and exile. This is an authoritarian assault on fundamental rights that no elected official should tolerate.
If Trump wants students to stop protesting the genocide in Gaza, he should call for an immediate and permanent end to that genocide—not endorse it while criminalizing those who demand justice.
