Vote against the HR1 murder budget, no distraction by Iran war
The "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (H.R. 1), aka the murder budget, is an egregious and destructive piece of legislation that Congress must reject outright. This partisan bill represents the largest upward transfer of wealth in decades, financing $2.4 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy by gutting vital social programs and public services that millions of Americans rely on. The bill's draconian cuts to Medicaid, including harsh new work requirements, would strip healthcare coverage from vulnerable populations. Proposed changes to Medicare eligibility rules and increased costs for those dually enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid demonstrate a callous disregard for our nation's seniors and disabled individuals. Moreover, tripling ICE's budget to ramp up Trump's inhumane mass deportation agenda is an affront to human rights and American values. Perhaps most alarmingly, H.R. 1 greenlights the sell-off of millions of acres of public lands to private buyers and fossil fuel companies, squandering our national heritage while exacerbating the climate crisis through increased extraction incentives and gutting clean energy tax credits. Historically disenfranchised communities would be hit hardest by the proposed slashing of SNAP benefits and imposition of stringent work requirements. The bill even goes so far as to undermine judicial authority by limiting courts' abilities to issue restraining orders and injunctions. Other appalling provisions include defunding Planned Parenthood, banning gender-affirming care for Medicaid/CHIP recipients, increasing an already bloated Pentagon budget by $150 billion, establishing a private school voucher system to redirect funds from public education, hiking taxes on college endowments, eroding student loan protections, slashing worker rights and benefits, crippling the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and eliminating an excise tax on gun silencer sales. In totality, H.R. 1 represents nothing less than a scorched-earth assault on working families, the social safety net, and the public good - all to finance an unconscionable tax windfall for the wealthiest few. I urge you to summarily reject this draconian bill and instead pursue a fair, responsible budget that uplifts all Americans.
