Response to Your Letter Regarding DOGE and the Trump Administration

26 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers!

Thank you for your detailed letter regarding the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the devastating effects its actions are having on our state and our nation. I appreciate the time your office took to outline the facts and provide specific examples of how this administration’s policies are damaging vital research, environmental protections, and public health infrastructure. That said, I am writing today not just to express concern about the policies themselves—but to voice my deep frustration with the lack of vocal opposition from your office to the broader context in which these actions are taking place. President Trump’s administration has repeatedly undermined the rule of law, flouted ethical standards, and now, through DOGE and other initiatives, seems to be dismantling the very machinery of government that protects and serves the American people. This is not simply a matter of policy disagreement—it is a crisis of democracy, and I believe it calls for stronger language and bolder action from our elected leaders. With all due respect, your letter lists the damage but doesn’t name the underlying issue: we are facing what appears to be a coordinated authoritarian push by a criminally compromised administration. The people of Washington state need to know what you, as our senator, are doing to resist—not just react to—these efforts. Facts are important, but leadership is vital. May I respectfully urge you to: • Speak out more publicly and forcefully about the illegal and unconstitutional actions of this administration—not only in writing, but on the Senate floor, in the press, and in every available forum. • Join or initiate bipartisan efforts to investigate DOGE and other actions that appear to violate federal law or ethical norms. • Push for increased whistleblower protections for federal employees who are being targeted or silenced. • Collaborate with your colleagues to prepare legislative guardrails against future abuses of power, ensuring that no president can so easily dismantle vital institutions. • Support and amplify pro-democracy movements and civic education efforts within Washington state. I understand that the political climate is fraught, and the path forward is not always clear. But silence—or soft responses—can be mistaken for complicity. I am one of many constituents who feel that now is not the time to play it safe. We need elected officials who will name what is happening and fight for our democracy with the urgency it demands. Thank you again for your service. I hope to see your leadership rise to meet this extraordinary moment in history.
