Resistbot Petition: Oppose Trump’s Immigrant Detention Center at Guantanamo Bay
An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Oppose Trump’s Immigrant Detention Center at Guantanamo Bay

33 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers!

I’m writing to urge you to speak up against Trump's Executive order to set up a large detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, which could accommodate up to 30,000 deported immigrants. Guantanamo Bay is best known for the suspects brought in after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. It already has The Migrant Operations Center, which is a small, separate facility used for decades to hold migrants. The nonprofit International Refugee Assistance Project said in a report last year that people are held in “prison-like” conditions. It said they were “trapped in a punitive system” indefinitely, with no accountability for the officials running it. This is not justice for immigrants. This is treating them the same way that other suspects are treated at Guantanamo Bay, which is without justice. Guantanamo Bay is a legal and moral abomination. Many detainees have been held for decades without being charged, without due process, and without justice. This perpetuation of indefinite detention is nothing short of state-sanctioned barbarism. Every day that Guantanamo remains open undermines the Constitution, tramples international law, and makes a mockery of America’s purported dedication to human rights. I demand that the you speak up about the injustice that is Guantanamo Bay and denounce Trumps plans to expand the Migrant Operations Center.
