Resistbot Petition: Stop the War on the Poor
An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stop the War on the Poor

I am writing to express my deep and unwavering opposition to the current budget plan that proposes devastating cuts to Medicaid and other critical federal assistance programs. This proposal is not simply a matter of numbers on a page — it is a direct assault on the health, dignity, and future of millions of Americans who rely on these programs for survival. Cutting Medicaid by hundreds of billions of dollars is not “fiscal responsibility” — it is cruelty disguised as governance. These cuts will not fall on the powerful or the privileged; they will fall squarely on our nation’s most vulnerable: children, seniors, disabled Americans, working families already struggling to make ends meet. This plan would rip away health care, food assistance, and basic human services from those who need it most, while simultaneously handing out new tax breaks to the wealthiest among us. It is a betrayal of the basic promise of a civilized society — that we do not abandon people simply because they are poor, sick, or in need. If enacted, these cuts will cripple communities across this nation. Hospitals in rural areas will close. Children will go without preventive care. Elderly Americans will be forced to choose between food and medicine. People with disabilities will lose the services that allow them to live independently and with dignity. It will not make our country stronger; it will deepen the divides and suffering already too present in our society. This is not the nation we are meant to be. We are strongest when we lift each other up — not when we balance budgets on the backs of those least able to bear the burden. I urge you: reject this budget plan. Fight for policies that invest in our people, that protect health care, that preserve the dignity of all Americans — not just the privileged few. History will remember how you respond to this moment. Please choose compassion, decency, and the future of all Americans over short-sighted cruelty.
