Resistbot Petition: Support Senate Res. 504 for Israeli-Palestinian human rights oversight
An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Support Senate Res. 504 for Israeli-Palestinian human rights oversight

49 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers!

I am writing to urge you to vote in favor of Senate Resolution 504, introduced by Senator Bernie Sanders under Section 502B(c) of the Foreign Assistance Act. This resolution would require the State Department to provide a report on the Israeli government's human rights practices within 30 days. Over the past 100 days, the Israeli military campaign in Gaza and the West Bank has resulted in devastating civilian harm. Amnesty International has uncovered evidence of war crimes committed by Israeli forces, including indiscriminate attacks that killed entire families and destroyed residential buildings using U.S.-made munitions. At least 43 civilians, including 19 children, were killed in just two unlawful attacks on homes. The U.S. has a responsibility to ensure its military aid and weapons transfers do not enable violations of international law. Voting for this resolution is a crucial first step towards Congressional oversight and accountability. It will provide vital information for Congress to assess whether U.S. support for Israeli operations is contributing to civilian casualties and human rights abuses. Passing Senate Res. 504 affirms Congress's role in monitoring potential human rights violations and ensuring the U.S. is not complicit in war crimes through its military assistance. I urge you to stand for transparency and civilian protection by voting yes on this resolution. The American people and the international community are looking to our elected leaders to uphold human rights and the rule of law.
