Pass SCERT Act to restore Supreme Court accountability

75 so far! Let’s get to 100 signers!

The Senate Judiciary Committee's investigation has revealed a disturbing pattern of ethical misconduct by Supreme Court justices, eroding public trust in the highest court of the land. From lavish gifts and travel funded by wealthy interests to conflicts of interest with spouses' political activities, justices have repeatedly violated ethical standards without consequence. The Court's inadequate response and lack of enforceable ethical guidelines necessitate congressional action. Passing the proposed Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency (SCERT) Act is a crucial step to restore accountability and impartiality to the Supreme Court. The SCERT Act would require the Court to adopt a binding code of conduct, create mechanisms for investigating ethics violations, enhance transparency around potential conflicts of interest, and mandate public explanations for recusal decisions. This legislation upholds the integrity of the nation's highest court by establishing clear, enforceable ethical guardrails. With the Court unwilling to undertake meaningful reform itself, it is incumbent upon Congress to act swiftly to pass the SCERT Act. The judiciary's credibility hinges on the public's faith that its rulings are impartial and ethical. Decisive congressional action through the SCERT Act will help resolve the Court's ethics crisis and reinforce its legitimacy as an independent, ethical institution serving the interests of all Americans.
