It counts as treason for a citizen or elected official to wage war on the United States.
And waging war (against blue cities and states) is exactly what Trump and Hegseth are doing. They have also announced their intention to wage war in unambiguous language.
On September 30, 2025, Donald J. Trump and Peter B. Hegseth addressed the entirety of US military leadership to explicitly declare their plans to execute a “war from within” the United States.
They made this declaration of war to the military leadership they expect to execute the war. Peter B. Hegseth further requested that military leaders with the integrity to resist unlawful orders resign, saying “if the words I’m speaking today are making your heart sink, then you should do the honorable thing and resign.“
In remarks subsequent to Hegseth’s speech, Donald J. Trump, in his official capacity as President of the United States, explicitly tied this war from within to American cities run by the opposition party, saying “You know, the Democrats run most of the cities that are in bad shape… what they’ve done to San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, they’re very unsafe places and we’re going to straighten them out one by one. And this is going to be a major part for some of the people in this room. That’s a war too. It’s a war from within.”
A war? A war from within? Yes: this is a declaration of war. And this war is treasonous.
Recall what the Constitution says about treason:
“Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort”
