Beyond these issues, Mr. Hegseth’s lack of substantial leadership experience and his regressive views—such as opposition to women in combat roles—make clear that he does not have the vision or skills necessary to lead our military effectively. His focus on divisive cultural battles rather than strategic military priorities is further evidence that he is disconnected from the complexities of modern defense needs.
Perhaps most concerning is Mr. Hegseth’s unabashed support for Israel’s military operations, including its ongoing genocide in Gaza. At a time when global outrage over Israel’s war crimes is mounting, the Secretary of Defense must prioritize accountability for violations of international law, not excuse or enable them. The U.S. cannot maintain credibility on the world stage while continuing to arm and shield a nation engaged in ethnic cleansing and collective punishment.
The role of Secretary of Defense requires an individual with a commitment to human rights, justice, and the ethical use of military power. Pete Hegseth’s record and rhetoric demonstrate he is fundamentally unqualified to uphold these principles.
I urge you to reject his nomination and to insist on a candidate who represents the integrity, expertise, and moral clarity needed to lead our nation’s armed forces.
