Senate Republicans are pushing a new budget plan that makes the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent and adds a further $1.5 trillion in cuts. The tax cuts are already disastrous and unfair, and must not be extended for even one day.
Despite the fact that budget reconciliation rules require that a decrease in revenue must be offset with equal amounts of spending cuts, Senate Republicans have decided to avoid the burden of accurate math by bypassing input from the Senate Parliamentarian who enforces those rules.
Not only are the Republicans attempting to push through a disastrous budget which would further destroy the economy (on top of the devastation created by Trump’s arbitrary and absurd tariffs), they are refusing to follow correct protocol.
The Republicans must NOT be allowed to circumvent the established protocols on any matter. Congress must hold the line and preserve order in its processes.
The Congressional Budget Office has confirmed that the House budget proposal is impossible to implement without cuts to both Medicaid and Medicare. Congress MUST reject these attacks on these critical programs, and MUST insist that the budget be processed through the required protocols prior to being presented for a vote.
