Reinstate Sanctions on Illegal Israeli Settlers in the West Bank
I am writing to express my outrage over the recent revocation of sanctions on Israeli settlers who have illegally occupied land in the West Bank. These settlements are in direct violation of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention, and contribute to the systemic displacement and oppression of Palestinians. By lifting these sanctions, the United States is not only enabling illegal activity but is also condoning ongoing human rights violations. Illegal settlements perpetuate a cycle of violence, undermine the prospects for a just peace, and destabilize the region. These settlers routinely engage in acts of intimidation and violence against Palestinians, destroying homes, farmlands, and livelihoods with near-total impunity. The U.S. government’s decision to revoke sanctions sends a dangerous message that these actions will be tolerated, despite their clear illegality under international law. The U.S. has long claimed to support a rules-based international order. Failing to act in this instance undermines our credibility on the global stage and contradicts our stated values of justice and human rights. It is imperative that the U.S. takes a stand against illegal settlement expansion and the gross human rights abuses committed by settlers. I urge you to take immediate action to reinstate sanctions on Israeli settlers in the West Bank. By doing so, you will affirm the United States’ commitment to upholding international law, protecting human rights, and fostering peace in the region. Anything less amounts to complicity in these crimes. Please act now to ensure that the U.S. does not aid or abet violations of international law.
