Bring SJ Res 41 to a Vote and Block Arms Sales to Violent Israeli Settlers
I am writing as your constituent to demand that you bring S.J. Res. 41 to a vote and support this critical joint resolution of disapproval. This legislation would block the proposed export license (DDTC 23-077) allowing the transfer of 20,000 fully automatic Colt 5.56mm rifles to the Israeli police—an unconscionable move that risks arming extremist settler militias with a known history of terrorizing Palestinians. Even Israeli officials previously delayed this sale due to concerns that these rifles would end up in the hands of violent settlers, whose attacks on Palestinian civilians and communities have skyrocketed in recent years. The Biden administration once paused the deal based on these very risks, but now, under the Trump administration, the sale is moving forward—despite clear warnings and evidence of human rights violations. The U.S. State Department’s own Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor has raised serious objections. The units slated to receive these weapons have been linked to extrajudicial killings. Yet this administration is greenlighting a deal that will pour gasoline on the fire of apartheid, occupation, and genocidal violence in Gaza and the West Bank. Facilitating the mass arming of violent, lawless militias violates not only basic human rights and international law but also the U.S. Arms Export Control Act. There is no excuse—none—for aiding and abetting this kind of brutality. The Senate must act. Pass S.J. Res. 41. Stop this weapons sale. Draw a line. I will be closely watching your vote—and so will many others who refuse to see our tax dollars fund war crimes and ethnic cleansing. Uphold human rights, or be complicit in their destruction.
