Impeachment is now a moral duty: support Rep. Thanedar's articles
Impeachment should be a moral duty when any impeachable person violates their oath of office, flouts the law, overturns the constitution, defies court orders, betrays our allies and exercises the very sort of tyranny that the American Declaration of Independence sought to remedy and prevent. Supporting the constitution should not be a partisan issue: the Constitution is not democratic or Republican. Defending the constitution against all enemies domestic or foreign is not a partisan matter. I write to demand that you honor your own solemn oath to the constitution by speaking in favor of Representative Shri Thanedar's articles of impeachment: vote for them in the house, impeach Trump in the senate. Trump's executive overreach in the first hundred days of his presidency has included numerous egregious offenses in all possible categories-- flouting the rule of law, defying court orders, usurping congressional power and annihilating due process and numerous rights. By now Trump's high crimes and misdemeanours include and far exceed those for which Nixon was impeached and those of his other impeachments. Our democracy is in peril; our rights need to be monitored from the outside; these constitutional abuses have not brought peace or prosperity: our international credibility is gone, we have sundered our closest alliances, a thriving economy is headed into recession. A group of legal experts recently listed Trump's unconstitutional acts. Their catalogue includes: Proclaiming an end to birthright citizenship; Deporting people without due process; Targeting law firms; Targeting universities; Targeting the press (esp. Associated Press); Impounding and withholding funds appropriated by Congress; Imposing tariffs without congressional review; Firing directors at independent agencies; Ignoring court orders; and Politicization of the Justice Department. Representative Shri Thanedar's articles are comprehensive and incontrovertible. I hope I can trust that you will support them. If you refuse to, please understand that this means you have betrayed your own oath of office; for that you will be judged harshly by history and remembered forever as one who betrayed your oath and the foundational principles of this republic. I count on you to do the right thing. Please reply in writing to let me know you understand the gravity of Trump's attacks on the constitution and your duty to halt and remedy them by convicting and removing him.
