I am writing to urge you to support Representative Shri Thanedar’s articles of impeachment against President Donald J. Trump, introduced on April 28, 2025. These articles detail a series of actions by President Trump that constitute high crimes and misdemeanors, posing a direct threat to our Constitution and democratic institutions.
The seven articles are as follows:
1. Obstruction of Justice and Abuse of Executive Power: President Trump has denied due process, engaged in unlawful deportations, defied court orders, and misused the Department of Justice to serve personal interests.
2. Usurpation of Appropriations Power: He has dismantled congressionally established agencies and impounded federal funds, undermining the legislative branch’s power of the purse.
3. Abuse of Trade Powers and International Aggression: The President has imposed economically damaging tariffs and threatened military action against sovereign nations without congressional approval.
4. Violation of First Amendment Rights: He has taken retaliatory actions against critics, the media, and attorneys, infringing upon constitutionally protected freedoms of speech and press.
5. Creation of an Unlawful Office: By establishing the Department of Government Efficiency (“DOGE”) and unlawfully empowering Elon Musk to act beyond constitutional constraints, he has created an extralegal authority.
6. Bribery and Corruption: The President has dismissed criminal cases, solicited foreign emoluments, and engaged in extortionate settlements for personal and political gain.
7. Tyrannical Overreach: He has sought to consolidate unchecked power, undermining the separation of powers and threatening the very foundation of our republic.
These actions represent a pattern of behavior that is antithetical to the principles which our nation claims to represent. They demonstrate a clear and present danger to the rule of law and the integrity of our democratic processes.
I implore you to uphold your constitutional duty by supporting these articles of impeachment. It is imperative that we hold our leaders accountable to preserve the sanctity of our democracy.
