Standing for human rights requires standing against Israel’s war crimes.

I am writing to express my extreme dismay regarding your continued support for Israel's 8-month-long, ongoing military assault against innocent Palestinians in illegally-occupied Palestine. This support echoes the infamous legacy of Henry Kissinger, whose policies regarding Vietnam, Cambodia, and Latin America left a bloody stain on human history. Kissinger's integral involvement in the secret bombings of Cambodia, which killed anywhere between 50,000 and 150,000 innocent Cambodians, in addition to his open support for authoritarian regimes, resulted in immense, unprecedented human suffering and widespread condemnation. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-67582813.amp Similarly, your current support for Israel’s massacres and destruction in Gaza is actively contributing to unfathomable humanitarian crises, the creation of which has lead to factually grounded allegations of numerous war crimes, including that of genocide. It is imperative that you learn from history and ensure that our government’s actions today do not continue creating the same regrettable outcomes as those in Cambodia and Vietnam. When it comes to international affairs, upholding human rights and international law should be your foremost priority, not the unwavering support of a country whose foundations are predicated on the subjugation of an entire people. https://press.un.org/en/2024/gapal1467.doc.htm How do you want to be remembered? Do you want to be celebrated as a champion of peace and human rights? Or are you willing to sacrifice these possibilities for the continued abandonment of your constituency, along with the dishonoring of humanity as a whole? What will your children or grandchildren say when they learn that you actively supported war criminals through the undermining of national and international law and the funding of a satirically oppressive regime? You can choose be courageous, or you can yield to the dominant powers that are attempting to abandon the work of pursuing justice and upholding the will of the people. I strongly suggest that you reconsider your support for any nation or individual that attempts to further Israel’s unconscionable and illegal assault on the people in Gaza, Palestine. Instead, I recommend that you become an advocate for peace and justice, not only because it is the inherently moral position to take, but because your actions will not fade into the past, they will be highlighted by the outcomes of the future.
