Demand accountability for killings of U.N. personnel in Gaza
It is deeply concerning that Israeli forces have killed 366 United Nations staffers and their family members in Gaza according to a leaked U.N. report, including humanitarian aid workers from the World Food Program and UNICEF. Targeting humanitarian relief personnel constitutes a grave war crime and a violation of international law. The loss of life among those providing essential services to the beleaguered civilian population of Gaza is abhorrent and unacceptable. To address this appalling situation, we urge an immediate halt to the excessive use of force by Israeli military forces against U.N. personnel and all civilians in Gaza. Furthermore, we call for a comprehensive independent investigation into these killings and all other potential war crimes committed during Israel's military campaign. Those responsible must be held fully accountable. Additionally, we request the implementation of an arms embargo on Israel until substantive steps are taken to uphold human rights and adhere to international humanitarian law in the occupied Palestinian territories. Continuing to provide military aid and arms sales that enable these egregious violations is antithetical to purported American values and interests. The civilian population of Gaza has already endured immense suffering under the harsh conditions of Israel's long blockade. Further escalation and violence will only compound the humanitarian catastrophe and loss of innocent lives. Decisive action promoting peace, human rights, and accountability is urgently needed. We implore you to use all available diplomatic means to protect civilians, safeguard humanitarian workers, and work towards a just resolution to this protracted, unjust conflict.
