I’m writing to urge you to stand strong and protect Californians from another devastating oil spill — one that would endanger our communities, local jobs, tourism, and cherished coastline.
Trump has bragged about expanding offshore drilling, including backing Sable (a Texas oil company trying to restart an old, leaky pipeline off California’s coast).
We cannot let oil companies cut corners and bypass the safeguards we need to prevent another catastrophe.
That’s why I’m asking for your leadership to pass legislation this session that restores the strongest protections written into SB 542 and AB 1448, whether in their original form or through the Governor’s bill. These safeguards would require basic, common-sense steps (such as permits, safety testing, and public review) before aging coastal pipelines can operate.
California has always led the nation in protecting people and the coast we love. Please continue that leadership now by restoring and passing these vital safeguards. The coast is too important to risk, and we need you to act now.
