On Nakba Day, Take Action to End the Ongoing Dispossession of Palestinians
Today is Nakba Day, marking 76 years since the forced displacement of over 750,000 Palestinians in 1948 during the creation of the State of Israel. More than 500 towns and villages were destroyed, and thousands were killed or wounded. This was not incidental—it followed the end of the British Mandate and was carried out through deliberate military operations. The Nakba is not a distant memory. Its consequences are ongoing. Today, over 5 million Palestinian refugees are still denied their right to return. In Gaza, 100% of the population faces acute food insecurity, with one in five facing starvation, according to the IPC, the global authority on hunger assessments. The U.S. must stop enabling this decades-long injustice. On this day of remembrance and urgency, I call on you to take immediate action: ⸻ If you are in the Senate: 1. Oppose S. 558, the Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2025 — which weaponizes antisemitism to silence criticism of Israel. 2. Oppose S. 1159, the Gaza Act — a blatantly discriminatory bill banning all Palestinian passport holders from the U.S. 3. Oppose HR 22, the so-called SAVE Act — a voter suppression bill requiring unnecessary documentation to register. 4. Oppose HR 1526, the No Rogue Rulings Act — which attacks judicial independence. 5. Support S. 898, the UNRWA Funding Restoration Act — to resume vital humanitarian aid to Palestinian refugees. ⸻ If you are in the House: 1. Co-sponsor HJ Res 68–71, to block weapons transfers to Israel during its ongoing war crimes in Gaza. 2. Support HR 630, the Neighbors Not Enemies Act — repealing the xenophobic Alien Enemies Act. 3. Support H. Res 192, recognizing the commencement of Ramadan — an act of inclusion and respect. 4. Oppose HR 1229, the U.S.-Israel Defense Partnership Act — which deepens support for a state engaged in apartheid and ethnic cleansing. 5. Oppose HR 1033, the Columbia Act — targeting student protesters and criminalizing dissent. 6. Support HR 2411, the UNRWA Funding Restoration Act — ensuring essential services to millions of Palestinian refugees. ⸻ This Nakba Day, honor the memory of what was lost—and what continues to be taken—by taking a stand for justice, accountability, and human rights. I am watching how you vote. Your choices now define your legacy.
