End Colorado’s Economic Partnership With Israel Now
I am writing as a concerned Coloradan who believes in justice, human rights, and the values of equality and fairness that our state represents. It has come to my attention that despite the grave violations of international law committed by the Israeli government, including the illegal expansion of settlements, war crimes, crimes against humanity, apartheid, and genocide against the Palestinian people, the state of Colorado continues its economic partnership with Israel. This partnership directly contradicts the principles of justice and human dignity that Coloradans stand for. We cannot, in good conscience, continue to trade with a state that actively perpetrates such heinous acts. Israel’s occupation of Palestine has been deemed illegal by the International Court of Justice, which affirmed that the settlements Israel is building in the occupied West Bank violate international law. This ruling should serve as a clear indication that Israel’s actions are not only morally indefensible, but also unlawful under international standards. The recent investigation by Amnesty International further highlights Israel’s genocidal policies, which have escalated to catastrophic levels in Gaza. Amnesty’s report categorically states that Israel’s actions in Gaza amount to genocide, a conclusion that is impossible to ignore. The systemic denial of basic rights and the violent targeting of civilians, infrastructure, and humanitarian aid demonstrate a deliberate campaign to annihilate a people and erase their existence. Yet, despite these damning findings, your administration continues to engage in economic relations with Israel, lending implicit support to these atrocities. Moreover, the tragic murder of American-Turkish citizen Aysenur Eygi by Israeli forces is a stark reminder that these actions are not isolated incidents, but part of a broader, ongoing pattern of violence. Aysenur, a human rights advocate, was killed by Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, a victim of the senseless violence that has been perpetuated for years against Palestinians, including innocent civilians like her. As a state that prides itself on being progressive, inclusive, and justice-oriented, Colorado cannot continue to ignore the human rights abuses taking place in Palestine. By continuing to trade and partner with Israel, we are directly supporting these crimes. I urge you to take immediate steps to sever economic and political ties with Israel until the Israeli government ends its illegal occupation, ceases its apartheid practices, halts its expansion of settlements, and ends its genocidal actions in Gaza. The people of Colorado, and particularly our Palestinian and Arab communities, deserve a governor who listens to their concerns and aligns with the global fight for human rights and dignity. I look forward to your response and to hearing how your office plans to address this critical issue.
