Congress: retake control of NLRB, MSPB, FTC and the Federal Reserve from Trump
The Supreme Court's recent grant of the Trump Regime's emergency application to stay the reinstatement of members of the NLRB and MSPB significantly diminishes the authority of key federal watchdog agencies, hampering their ability to hold corporate wrongdoers accountable and protect workers' rights - neither is able to function without a quorum, effectively disarming them without dismantling these vital agencies. This decision empowers the President to unilaterally remove the members of other independent and bipartisan agencies like the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Reserve, undermining their intended independence and autonomy. Disabling these critical guardrails against executive overreach poses grave risks to our system of checks and balances. Congress must take immediate action to re-establish oversight powers and restore institutional integrity. Unchecked presidential control over agencies intended to be impartial threatens the public good in service of narrow interests and power consolidation. Left unchallenged, this ruling sets a dangerous precedent enabling administrations to evade accountability mechanisms and abuse authority with impunity. Decisive legislative intervention is imperative to preserve the separation of powers and reinforce the watchdog role protecting workers, consumers, and the national interest from exploitation by bad actors. The federal government derives its legitimacy from upholding the rule of law and defending democratic principles, not granting excessive, unilateral powers susceptible to corruption. Congress has a duty to the American people to restore these vital safeguards against executive overreach and corporate malfeasance.
