Vote NO on H.R. 1526 – Protect the Judiciary’s Power to Check Executive Abuses
I urge you to vote NO on H.R. 1526 – a dangerous and reckless attempt to strip the federal judiciary of one of its most essential powers: the ability to issue nationwide injunctive relief against unlawful government action. This bill is nothing short of an attack on our constitutional system of checks and balances. The Trump administration spent years trying to dismantle the very institutions designed to check executive power, and now, extremists in Congress are pushing forward legislation that would permanently weaken the courts’ ability to protect our rights. Nationwide injunctions have been a vital tool for federal judges acting within their constitutional and congressional authority. They have been used to stop executive orders and federal policies that posed immediate threats to civil liberties – from unlawful mass deportations under a wartime law, to attacks on health care for transgender youth. Limiting courts from issuing such relief leaves communities vulnerable to illegal and unconstitutional policies while lengthy legal battles drag on. H.R. 1526 undermines judicial independence and signals open season on our freedoms. This is not a partisan issue – this is about preserving the ability of the courts to act as a check on executive overreach, no matter who is in power. Weakening that check endangers every right we hold dear, from due process and equal protection, to reproductive freedom and free speech. The Senate must reject this attack on the judiciary and the Constitution. Please vote NO on H.R. 1526.
