Reject Unconstitutional Curtailment of Boycotts in HR 867
The International Grave Offenses Against Reality's Enduring Costs (IGOAREC) Act, or HR 867, poses a severe threat to the constitutionally protected right to free speech and should be rejected. This bill dangerously seeks to criminalize boycotts of Israel over its systematic human rights abuses against Palestinians, imposing civil and criminal penalties on individuals merely expressing political beliefs through economic decisions. Such an unjustified violation of First Amendment protections is authoritarian overreach incompatible with American values of free expression. Boycotts are a nonviolent form of protest with a long tradition in the struggle for civil rights. By unduly restricting this avenue for dissent, HR 867 obstructs the open exchange of ideas essential to democracy. Opposing this draconian assault on free speech rights is imperative to uphold constitutional liberties and prevent further democratic erosion. I strongly urge voting no on this bill that so egregiously undermines fundamental American principles.
