Resistbot Petition: Defend the 5th Amendment. Free illegally detained ICE targets. Stop Renditions
An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Defend the 5th Amendment. Free illegally detained ICE targets. Stop Renditions

2,404 so far! Let’s get to 3,000 signers!

I am alarmed by the illegal renditions to El Salvador and by the disappearing of Rumeysa Ozturk and others. The constitution (which you have sworn to defend and uphold) gives the right of Habeas corpus to citizens, non-citizens, green card holders, innocent people and criminals. When Habeas corpus defied for one person, no one is safe. What is to stop ICE from going after a judge now, or a member of Congress who disagrees with a Trump policy? Nothing. No one is safe. I am alarmed by the news about the extra judicial rendition flights to El Salvador-- and by the egregious and illegal lack of due process for those captured and detained. NONE of these people should have been deported without due process. The 5th Amendment clearly says "No person shall...be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law." We demand legal and effective mechanisms for getting the release of the people who have been detained by ICE. We demand that all those detained must be returned. We demand that all further detentions are stopped. Please use all the legislative mechanisms available to uphold the constitution, including the 5th amendment. Please vote to overturn the Trump declarations of emegency around immigration and the Southern Border. Please reply in writing to assure me that you will be upholding and defending the constitution, including the 5th amendment.
