As an American citizen, I am outraged that classified military information was reportedly shared via a non-secure messaging app—Signal—and that a journalist with no official government position, was added to this thread discussing active war planning.
This reckless mishandling of classified material is a direct violation of the standards and laws governing national security, including the Espionage Act. I recall the extensive investigations into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, and the fierce political response that followed. If that warranted national scrutiny, how can we ignore this much more egregious situation involving real-time military planning in an unsecured digital environment?
The use of Signal—an app not authorized for the transmission of classified information—by individuals involved in high-level national defense discussions is a glaring failure of protocol. It begs the question: if this kind of breach is happening so openly, what else might be occurring behind closed doors?
Our service members and allies depend on secure, responsible leadership. Allowing such negligence to go unchecked undermines both our credibility on the world stage and the safety of those who serve. Time and time again this administration is letting down our service people and the veterans who served before.
I urge you to call for a full investigation into this matter and to push for the immediate removal of Pete Hegseth from any and all access to national security information. He must be held accountable for the laws he broke.
