Halt Further Airstrikes, Reassert Congressional Authority on War Powers
The President's unilateral decision to launch airstrikes against Iranian nuclear facilities represents a dangerous escalation that threatens catastrophic consequences for the entire region. This reckless act circumvented Congress's constitutional authority over matters of war and peace. It is imperative that Congress reasserts its rightful role and upholds its oath to defend the Constitution. The airstrikes will surely spark retaliatory missile strikes from Iran against Israel, risking an uncontrolled spiraling of violence that could engulf the Middle East. The potential for further loss of innocent life and destabilization is unacceptable without proper Congressional oversight and approval. I urge you to immediately convene and pass a binding resolution halting any further offensive military operations against Iran until formal Congressional authorization is granted, as stipulated by the War Powers Resolution. The American people deserve a voice through their elected representatives on matters of such grave consequence. Failure to act now would normalize the disturbing precedent of rogue executive overreach and undermine the foundational system of checks and balances. Furthermore, I call on Congress to pursue substantive reforms to the War Powers Resolution and other statutory limitations to prevent any president from so brazenly circumventing legislative approval for offensive military actions in the future. The American people's civil liberties and democratic principles are at stake. Our Constitution demands no less than Congress's resolute defense of its authorities and the rule of law.
