Resistbot Petition: Do not attend the Joint Address
An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Do not attend the Joint Address

177 so far! Let’s get to 250 signers!

I am writing as a concerned US citizen and one of your constituents to request that you reconsider your attendance at the upcoming Joint Address to Congress on Tuesday. In these unprecedented and uncertain times, we can no longer treat matters of government as if they are business as usual. What we are facing is a crisis, and we need leaders to respond accordingly. The optics of attending the Joint Address, while it may seem like a normal political event, serve as a troubling reminder that we are not treating this situation with the gravity it deserves. I respectfully urge you to forgo attending the Joint Address and instead hold a virtual town hall with your constituents. This is an opportunity to engage directly with those you represent, listen to their concerns, and show that you are focused on real, immediate action rather than ceremonial appearances. We need to move beyond symbolism and make sure that our representatives are fully committed to addressing the urgent crises we are facing. These are desperate times, and the inaction or the appearance of normalcy from those in power sends a message that this situation is not as dire as it truly is. Your leadership should reflect the severity of the challenges before us, and it’s critical that you take bold and decisive steps to confront this crisis. Thank you for your time and consideration. I trust you will give this matter the attention it deserves and look forward to your response.
