The 14th Amendment is unambiguous - all persons born in the United States are citizens. President Trump's executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship clearly violates this constitutional guarantee. While the debate around nationwide injunctions is an important one, it should not distract from the core issue at stake - the president lacks the authority to unilaterally override explicit constitutional provisions through executive action. I urge the Court to uphold the Constitution and the well-established understanding of the 14th Amendment by affirming the lower court rulings blocking implementation of this unconstitutional executive order. Allowing the order to take effect would undermine a cornerstone principle of American citizenship protections.
