Rescind inhumane CBP detention policies endangering vulnerable lives

314 so far! Let’s get to 500 signers!

The rescission of critical policies protecting vulnerable groups like pregnant women, infants, and the elderly in CBP custody is unconscionable. Depriving at-risk individuals of basic care and safeguards endangers lives and violates human rights standards. This callous decision exacerbates long-standing failures to provide adequate medical treatment and humane conditions for detainees. A damning Senate report just months ago exposed systemic issues with CBP's inadequate medical operations, including lack of proper staffing, records mismanagement, and absence of clear treatment guidelines. The tragic death of 8-year-old Anadith Danay Reyes Álvarez, who pleaded for help that never came, underscores the dire consequences of this inhumane treatment. Revoking protections for society's most vulnerable members reflects a disturbing embrace of cruelty over compassion. This decision must be rescinded immediately to uphold basic human dignity and prevent further loss of life. Comprehensive reforms are urgently needed to overhaul CBP's standards of care in line with medical ethics and constitutional principles.
