I am writing to express my strong opposition to H.R. 1792, the “No Tax Dollars for the United Nation’s Immigration Invasion Act,” reintroduced by Congressman Lance Gooden. This bill seeks to cut off taxpayer funding to critical UN agencies such as the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Additionally, it mandates a GAO audit of U.S. funding to these entities and a review of the State Department’s Refugee Travel Loan Program.
This legislation is not just an attack on international humanitarian efforts—it is a blatant attempt to play on racism and xenophobia. It is part of a broader effort to use fear to convince Americans that the threats to our security and freedom come from migrants, people of color, Palestinians, Muslims, and other marginalized communities. In reality, the greatest threats come from oligarchs, rising authoritarianism, and the forces of white nationalism that undermine democracy and concentrate power in the hands of the few.
Defunding UN agencies that assist displaced people will not make America safer. It will only further destabilize regions in crisis and harm the very people fleeing violence and oppression. Instead of advancing racist, fear-based policies, Congress should focus on addressing the real sources of instability—economic inequality, corporate corruption, and the erosion of democratic institutions.
I urge you to oppose H.R. 1792 and reject this dangerous, fearmongering agenda. The United States must stand for humanitarian aid and international cooperation, not white nationalist scapegoating.
