congress I’m writing to urge you to hold the line against the Trump-Musk power grab and refuse to pass anything other than a clean, short-term continuing resolution (CR) unless real protections are in place.
The government shuts down on March 14 unless Congress passes a funding bill. Republicans need Democratic votes to get anything through, but instead of negotiating in good faith, they’re pushing a MAGA-backed CR that slashes critical funding—threatening Social Security, housing, food assistance, and veterans’ benefits.
This isn’t just an attack on essential programs. It’s an attempt to hand Trump and Elon Musk even more control over federal spending. Instead of reining them in, this CR legitimizes their power grab.
Democrats must not give them that blank check. You have leverage. Use it. I urge you to:
• Reject extreme funding cuts and MAGA poison pills attacking abortion rights, LGBTQ+ protections, and immigrant communities.
• Demand real, enforceable protections that stop Trump and Musk from hijacking federal spending.
• Refuse to support anything beyond a clean, two-week CR unless those protections are in place.
And while this Trump-Musk coup continues—while they illegally raid payment systems, attempt to shut down agencies, and fire federal workers—Senate Democrats must use every procedural tool available to fight back. That means blanket holds, blocking unanimous consent, weaponizing quorum calls—whatever it takes.
This is not business as usual. This is an existential fight for democracy. Please, hold the line.
