Say NO to Voter Suppression – Vote Against the SAVE Act
I am writing to you as a deeply concerned constituent to voice my strong opposition to the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This bill is not only unnecessary—it is a direct threat to voting rights and the democratic values our nation claims to uphold. The narrative behind the SAVE Act—that non-citizen voting is a widespread issue—has been thoroughly debunked by both Democratic and Republican election officials, and there is no credible evidence of any significant problem this bill would solve. Instead, what the SAVE Act will do is create new and excessive documentation requirements that make it harder for eligible Americans to register and vote. Particularly alarming is the way this legislation would disproportionately harm married women, many of whom face bureaucratic obstacles when their legal name does not exactly match the name on their citizenship documents. For countless women who change their name after marriage, proving citizenship under the new requirements could become an unnecessary and impossible burden—effectively stripping them of their right to vote. This is not election security; it’s voter suppression. The bill also puts up barriers for the elderly, rural voters, low-income individuals, and naturalized citizens—all of whom may face difficulty in accessing original or updated legal documents. It is a modern-day poll tax cloaked in red tape. I urge you to reject this bill and instead work to protect and expand access to the ballot. Our democracy depends on fair and inclusive participation, not fear-driven policies aimed at silencing the most vulnerable among us. I expect you to oppose the SAVE Act and stand up for the rights of your constituents.
