Resistbot Petition: Demand Immediate Halt to Excessive Force by ICE Agents in Broadview
An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Demand Immediate Halt to Excessive Force by ICE Agents in Broadview

31 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers!

I am writing to express my grave concern and outrage over the recent events at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Broadview, Illinois. The excessive use of force by federal agents against peaceful protesters is unacceptable and must be addressed immediately. During the recent protests against 'Operation Midway Blitz,' federal agents employed disproportionate and dangerous tactics against demonstrators. They used less-lethal ammunition, tear gas, and pepper spray on civilians exercising their First Amendment rights. There are reports of protesters being shot point-blank with pepper bullets, pushed, and shoved violently. This level of force is not only unnecessary but also a clear violation of civil liberties and human rights. The Department of Homeland Security's characterization of the protesters as "rioters" is misleading and appears to be an attempt to justify their heavy-handed response. Video evidence suggests a smaller, largely peaceful crowd, contradicting DHS claims. Furthermore, local police have disputed DHS assertions about calls for assistance, indicating a concerning discrepancy in the official narrative. It is telling that respected Illinois politicians, including Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton and Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss, joined the protesters in solidarity. Their presence underscores the legitimacy of the concerns being raised about immigration enforcement practices in our community. I urge you to take immediate action to: 1. Call for an immediate halt to the use of excessive force by ICE agents against protesters. 2. Demand a thorough, independent investigation into the events at the Broadview ICE facility. 3. Push for increased oversight and accountability measures for ICE operations, particularly during public demonstrations. 4. Support legislation that protects the rights of protesters and ensures that law enforcement agencies, including ICE, are held to the highest standards of conduct. The escalation of violence against civilians by federal agents is a dangerous precedent that threatens the very fabric of our democracy. We must act swiftly to protect the constitutional rights of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status. The eyes of the nation are on Illinois, and your leadership on this issue is crucial. I look forward to hearing about the concrete steps you will take to address this urgent matter.
