SCOTUS needs to uphold Judge Boasberg’s contempt finding against Trump et al

The Trump administration's brazen contempt of Judge Boasberg's orders halting deportation flights under the Alien Enemies Act represents a flagrant disregard for the rule of law and the judicial system's authority. It is imperative that this Court upholds the contempt finding when this case inevitably reaches your esteemed bench. While the recent 5-4 ruling required certain legal claims to be brought via habeas corpus petitions, Judge Boasberg correctly recognized that this does not absolve the administration of being held accountable for willfully violating his orders prior to that decision. The principle that parties must obey court orders until overturned by a higher court is a bedrock foundation of our legal system. Permitting the executive branch to flout judicial directives with impunity would severely erode the checks and balances so integral to American democracy. This contempt matter is distinct from the underlying policy dispute and falls squarely within the court's authority to ensure compliance with its lawful orders. Upholding Judge Boasberg's contempt ruling is vital to preserving the integrity of the federal judiciary and the constitutional order.
