Uphold the Constitution, Free Dr. Badar Khan Suri
Dr. Badar Khan Suri has a PhD in Peace & Conflict Studies from the Nelson Mandela Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution at Jamia Millia Islamia, a public research university in New Delhi. Dr. Suri is a Georgetown University professor and postdoctoral scholar. He is in the U.S. under a J-1 visa, which is a visa for people to participate in approved programs for teaching, studying, training, and research. On March 17, 2025, masked federal agents told Dr. Suri that his visa was revoked. He was then detained by the Trump administration without being charged for any crime. U.S. District Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles ruled that Dr. Suri can’t be removed from the U.S. “until the Court issues a contrary order.” Dr. Suri is being detained and denied due process for no reason. Dr. Suri’s wife is of Palestinian descent, and his father-in-law was a former advisor to Hamas. Dr. Suri himself has not taken any action that warrants being charged with a crime, and he has not even been charged with a crime. He should not be detained in the first place. I want to know your stance on these violations of due process. If you do not support these violations of due process, then I want you to (1) denounce the Trump administration’s actions against Dr. Suri, (2) tell me how you plan to protect due process, and (3) act on your responsibility to uphold the Constitution. As your constituent, I expect a response.
