Hold Musk Accountable: Protect Our Democracy
I am writing to express my concern about the growing influence of billionaires like Elon Musk over our federal government. Recent actions by Musk’s companies and staff raise alarming questions about corporate overreach, misuse of taxpayer funds, and efforts to undermine democratic processes. Reports suggest Musk’s staff has been embedded in critical federal agencies like NOAA and the Department of Labor, influencing policy and reshaping government systems in ways that may violate privacy laws. Meanwhile, Musk’s companies—Tesla and SpaceX—have received billions in federal subsidies and contracts, despite little accountability for how these funds serve public interests. At the same time, initiatives like the American Accountability Foundation’s “D.E.I. bureaucrat watch list” target public servants—many of whom focus on diversity and equity—undermining critical government work and silencing voices that challenge systemic inequities. Contrary to claims that cutting federal workers would save money, federal civilian employees account for just 4% of the budget. True drivers of federal spending include corporate welfare, military spending, and programs like Medicare and Social Security. The focus on reducing federal workers is a distraction from the real issues. Congress must act to protect democratic governance from corporate influence. I urge you to: 1. Investigate Corporate Overreach: Demand transparency in contracts and policies involving Musk’s companies and ensure proper oversight of their activities within federal agencies. 2. Protect Public Servants: Advocate for legislation that shields federal employees from harassment and politically motivated targeting. 3. Reform Corporate Subsidies: Ensure taxpayer funds are used responsibly by requiring corporations to demonstrate clear public benefits. 4. Strengthen Privacy Protections: Safeguard federal employee and citizen data from unethical corporate practices. Our government must serve the people, not billionaires or private corporations. I trust you will stand for accountability, transparency, and the integrity of our democratic institutions. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response.
