Standing with Rep. Al Green Against Political Censorship
I strongly condemn the decision by the U.S. House of Representatives to censure Congressman Al Green for his courageous stand during President Donald Trump’s address. This censure is not just a rebuke of one representative—it is an attempt to silence the voices of millions of Americans who expect their elected officials to challenge injustice and hold power accountable. Representative Green acted in the proud tradition of those who have used their voices to challenge oppression, discrimination, and policies that harm the most vulnerable among us. His objection to the President’s misleading claims about Medicaid was not just a moment of protest—it was an act of service to the people he represents. He spoke for the countless Americans who fear the devastating consequences of Medicaid cuts, for the working families who depend on these critical programs, and for those who are too often ignored by Washington’s political establishment. The censure of Rep. Green is a dangerous precedent—one that punishes dissent and discourages elected officials from speaking out on behalf of their constituents. True democracy requires debate, protest, and, when necessary, disruption to challenge the status quo. Silencing a representative for exercising his duty to his constituents is an affront to the principles of free speech and democratic representation. I stand in full solidarity with Rep. Al Green and commend him for his unwavering commitment to justice and truth. We must resist any effort to suppress voices of dissent, and we must continue to fight for a government that represents the will of the people—not just the comfort of those in power.
