I am also appalled at the cuts to DC funding in the CR you all passed.
Please now vote YES on US Senate Bill S1077, the 2025 District of Columbia Local Funds Act.
This lets the DC Mayor spend already collected LOCAL, not federal tax revenue.
The cuts to DC funds in the CR mean that unless the Mayor can spend the already collected LOCAL tax there will be cuts that will hurt people's lives:
The council and mayor would have to slash funds for teachers, police officers, fire fighters and other emergency staff, reduce funds for the Metro bus and subway service, as well as health services and even retirees’ pensions! The resulting disruption to city services would harm residents, people who work in the city and discourage Americans from visiting their nation’s capital.
As we all know, the District of Columbia has no representation in Congress. Someday I hope this salient inequity will be righted. But for now: please ensure that DC can use its own locally collected revenue to keep the lights on.
