Syphilis is killing babies

ProPublica has reported that syphilis, which is highly treatable, is spreading and killing babies because the drug that cures it is in short supply - and no one, not Pfizer, the only U.S. manufacturer of the drug, nor the U.S. government, is addressing the problem. That has to change right now. I am calling on your office to take immediate steps to deal with this shameful public health failure. Furthermore, Pfizer's inaction highlights the need for fast passage of the Affordable Drug Manufacturing Act (H.R.6607 and S.3398), which would “establish an Office of Drug Manufacturing within the Department of Health and Human Services responsible for manufacturing generic drugs, lowering prices, increasing competition, and addressing drug shortages.” Please push for this proposal to move forward ASAP.
