Hearings Needed: Truth and Competence in the White House

5,011 so far! Let’s get to 10,000 signers!

I write today out of deep concern for the integrity and stability of our government. This is not about partisanship—it is about whether the President and his top advisors are fit to lead with honesty and sound judgment. The President recently signed an executive order declaring “Antifa” a domestic terrorist organization. But Antifa is not an organization at all. Security experts across the political spectrum agree it is a loose set of individuals with no leadership or structure. To call it a “terrorist organization” is not just inaccurate, it is legally impossible. When the highest office in the land bases policy on falsehoods, Americans of every political stripe should be alarmed. We have seen this pattern before. Stephen Miller, a senior advisor, has repeatedly spread inflammatory claims—circulating racist conspiracy theories, pushing the suspension of habeas corpus for migrants, and boasting that the Muslim ban rewrite was designed to achieve the “same outcome” as the original. These are not slips of the tongue; they are calculated lies meant to inflame rather than to solve problems. The danger is not confined to rhetoric. When comedian Jimmy Kimmel criticized MAGA extremism, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr echoed the President’s hostility and suggested broadcasters could face consequences. That is an abuse of power. The federal government should never be used to punish speech protected by the First Amendment. If it can happen to a late-night host, it can happen to a pastor, a farmer, or a business owner. Republicans and Democrats alike should be able to agree: honesty and mental stability are non-negotiable qualities for those entrusted with immense power. If a president, cabinet member, or advisor cannot tell the truth or restrain themselves from paranoid retaliation, they should not be making decisions that affect the lives of 330 million Americans. I urge you to convene hearings now to examine the pervasive dishonesty and erratic behavior at the top levels of government. Our nation’s future is too important to allow deception, delusion, and abuse of power to become the norm.
