Take immediate action to restore the proper checks and balances to trade policy

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the continued use of emergency powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). While this legislation was initially crafted to address national emergencies, it was never intended to serve as a bypass for Congressional authority on trade policy. The scope of power granted under the IEEPA is intended for rare, urgent circumstances, not as a tool for executive overreach on critical policy matters such as trade. Congress has a vital role in overseeing and directing trade policy, and it must act to prevent the misuse of these powers. The current situation is not a true emergency. In fact, the real crisis we face is the failure of Congress to assert its constitutional responsibilities while working Americans risk losing their jobs and financial security. The ongoing use of emergency powers without Congressional oversight undermines the very democratic principles that our nation was built upon. As your constituent, I urge you to take immediate action to cancel the so-called emergency powers and restore proper checks and balances to trade policy. We cannot allow the current status quo to persist. The economic well-being of working families is at stake, and it is imperative that Congress stand up to ensure their livelihoods are protected. I trust that you will take this matter seriously and work toward a resolution that reflects the best interests of the American people. Thank you for your time and attention to this critical issue.
