Our leaders in Congress must robustly denounce the use of bogeymen and Trojan horses to mislead the public and sow division. These tactics, employed by Trump, Musk and their allies, target vulnerable communities as scapegoats and disguise self-serving agendas under the pretense of efficiency or public good. We cannot allow fear-mongering against marginalized groups like immigrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, or ethnic minorities to gain traction. Nor can we accept the erosion of vital public services and government oversight under the guise of eliminating "waste." These ploys are straight from the fascist playbook and must be called out unequivocally. Only by rejecting such deceptive fearmongering and rejecting bad-faith "gifts" can we protect our democratic institutions and the rights of all Americans. Our representatives have a responsibility to see through these ruses and condemn them plainly, without entertaining or lending them any undue credibility. The very future of our republic depends on standing firm against such authoritarian machinations.
