Protecting Disabled and Gay Kids from Rising Threats
I am a parent in Los Angeles, raising two brilliantly unique, neurodivergent children — one of whom is gay. Like all parents, my greatest responsibility is to protect them and ensure they have a future where they can thrive. But today, that future feels more uncertain than ever. The policies and rhetoric coming from extremist politicians at the national level — especially those aligned with the Project 2025 agenda — are not just political maneuvers; they are direct threats to my children’s safety, dignity, and rights. The relentless attacks on LGBTQIA+ youth, the erosion of protections for disabled individuals, and the increasing normalization of hate-fueled policies are terrifying. Families like mine are looking to leaders like you to hold the line. California has long been a beacon of progress, inclusion, and protection for marginalized communities, and we need that leadership now more than ever. I urge you to stand firm against any and all policies that would strip away the rights of my children and others like them. I trust you to: • Strengthen protections for LGBTQIA+ youth in education, healthcare, and community spaces. • Defend neurodivergent and disabled individuals from policies that threaten their access to resources, education, and accommodations. • Ensure California remains a sanctuary state for those fleeing oppressive laws in other parts of the country. • Proactively push back against national-level extremist agendas that seek to roll back decades of progress. This is not just about politics — this is about the lives of our children. Their futures depend on leaders like you standing unwavering in the face of hate and injustice. I am counting on you to fight for them, and I will be watching closely to ensure that California continues to be a state that protects its most vulnerable. Thank you for your time and for your commitment to justice. I look forward to seeing how you continue to lead in these critical times.
