The Whole World Is Watching
Dissent is the lifeblood of democracy and ours is bleeding out.
Buzzfeed reports — and numerous sources on Twitter seem to confirm — that an “ICE [prison] guard” drove his truck into a a group of Jewish protesters at a private prison in Rhode Island called the Wyatt Detention Center.
Fortunately, unlike a similar indecent in Charlottesville, VA in 2017, no one was killed in this attack. When the crowd attempted to stop the attacker, additional guards pepper-sprayed the protesters.
At the time of this writing no charges have been filed despite multiple injuries among the protesters including a fractured leg. State and local police report that they are investigating, though the urgency of that investigation remains in doubt.
What Can I Do?
Well, if you live in Rhode Island you should feel free to let your Governor and state legislature know how this makes your state look and what you think should be done about it. Text state to Resistbot to give them a piece of your mind. If you’re outside of Rhode Island, it’s worth remembering that Congress has oversight responsibilities which include ICE. Send congress to Resistbot and urge your Representatives and Senators to hold the ICE and the Wyatt Detention Center to account.
