Ballot Measures: Florida
Early voting in Florida runs October 22 through November 2
There are 11 amendments on Florida’s ballot this year on a range of topics such as the mandatory retirement age of judges through the abolishment of dog racing. Of these amendments, only one of them has the power to grow the voter rolls by 1.6 million people.
If passed, Amendment 4, Restoration of Felon’s Voting Rights, would provide for the automatic restoration of the right to vote to convicted felons who have served their sentences (including prison terms, parole, and probation).
Impact: Major — there are 1.6 million convicted felons in the state of Florida who will benefit from the passage of this amendment. Florida is a battle-ground state, and an additional 1.6 million votes on any issue, for either party, would have a significant impact in every election.
Support: U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist (D-13); Former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham (D-2); Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum (D); Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine (D); Gubernatorial Candidate Christopher King (D); Florida Rights Restoration Coalition; American Civil Liberties Union; Our Revolution; New Approach PAC; Floridians for a Fair Democracy; and Reentry Alliance Pensacola.
Opposed: Floridians For A Sensible Voting Rights Policy; Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam; Rep. Richard Corcoran (R-37)
