Seven measures were approved for inclusion on the 2018 Utah ballot, most of which have to do with taxation. Proposition 4, however, is about redistricting and will change how future elections happen in Utah.

Proposition 4

If passed, Proposition 4 would shift redistricting responsibilities from the Utah legislature to a seven-person redistricting commission. Appointments to the commission are balanced on a bipartisan basis with a governor’s appointment serving as chair (and likely providing a tie-breaking vote).

Impact: Moderate — Utah is still Utah and nonpartisan redistricting it is not likely to substantively change the partisan balance of the state.
Support: Bipartisan — Overwhelmingly so. Detractors exist, but they’re a small minority.
