Editor, Times-Dispatch:I urge people to fight against mass incarceration of individuals who commit non-violent crimes, especially minor drug crimes. Criminals need to be held accountable, but science tells us that long-term incarceration is not an effective treatment for drug addiction. Science also tells us that mass incarceration destroys families and communities.Yes, imprison people who are violent and destructive. But let’s not imprison individuals who are nonviolent. There are other ways to stand strong against crime.
